Auxiliary Verbs

Selamat sore sahabat everydayisgreatfriday.blogspot.com, kali ini aku mau kasih resuman buat 'Auxiliary Verbs' yaaa.. langsung aja dilihat tabel dibawah ini udah lengkap sama contoh dan penggunaan. Oh iya ini sumbernya dari Basic English Grammar 2 by Howard Sargeant page 88-90. Semoga bermanfaat yaa :)

AUXILIARY VERB

To show ability, to show that someone is allowed to do somethingto ask for information
CAN
COULD
·      I can swim
·      My mom says you can come to our house for dinner
·      Can you show me the way to the nearby supermarket?
·      I could not swim when I was 10
·      My mom said I could have ice cream after dinner
·      Could you show me the way to the nearby supermarket?

To ask or to tell that someone is allowed to do something, to show possibility
MAY
MIGHT
·      May I borrow your pen?
·      John may leave, but Sally may not
·      I may not have time to go swimming tonight.
·      We might go to the party later
·      Takes an umbrella. It might be rain soon.

Asking someone to do something, Offer or suggest something
WILL
WOULD
·      Will you stop making that noise?
·      Will I carry the bag for you?
·      Would you pass me that book, please?
·      Would you like another drink?

Ask for advice/ suggest something/ offer something
SHALL
SHOULD
Shall we go home now?/Shall I help you with the heavy bag?
·      Should I phone the police?
·      You should try that new French restaurant.

OUGHT TO
MUST
To make strong suggestion/ to show someone’s duty
To talk about things you have to do
·      You look tired. You ought to go to bed early.
·      You ought to turn the computer off when you are not using it.
